Saturday 15th September.
GOODBYES.
With the goodbyes waved, the hugs hugged and the backpack packed, it's finally time to start this trip by train to London Waterloo. Then a taxi across the Thames to what I feel could be my last night of comfort for some time. I book in at The Strand Palace Hotel, room 217 and I'm disappointed, no complimentary sewing kit ( think about it a sewing kit that tells you how brilliant you are and how good you look, who wouldn't be disappointed). I console myself by taking all the teas, coffees, sugers, sweeteners and shampoos I can find, I put them in my backpack.
A quick viit to the bar and there they are, a few fellow travellers. Spirits are high and we are all excited. We arrange to meet at 6 in reception the next morning and the start of our adventure.

Sunday 16th September.
THE OFF
6 o'clock and we're in reception, all of us except one, none of us knew this person that well, we knew she was Irish, knew she was in our hotel somewhere and also knew she was a little worse for wear the night before. Eventually she's found all tucked up still in bed. Now we're ready. A short walk to Cleopatras' needle and there it is. Our OzBus.
We leave London and head to Dover. We leave England and head for France but we dont stop, onwards into Belgium, several service station stops and we are entering our next county, Germany and towards the Rhine Valley and our first camp sight.
We arrive very late and decide the tents can stay packed, for an extra Euro we decide to go for the luxury of mattresses on bunk beds in a dorm.
